DAY 01: Arrival in Negombo
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, where you will be warmly greeted by our representative and driver. From the airport, you will be driven to Negombo, a coastal town renowned for its beautiful beaches and vibrant fish markets. Check into your accommodation at Club Palm Bay, a resort offering a tranquil retreat by the sea. Spend the evening relaxing on the sandy beaches or exploring the town. You may choose to visit the Negombo Fishery Harbour to witness the bustling local fishing industry. Return to Club Palm Bay for an overnight stay, where you can unwind and prepare for the exciting days ahead.
DAY 02: Exploring Anuradhapura
After a hearty breakfast, set off for Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals and a treasure trove of historical and cultural heritage. Anuradhapura, recognized as the cradle of Sinhala civilization, features an impressive array of archaeological wonders. Spend the day exploring the ancient city, including the revered Sri Maha Bodhi Temple, one of the world’s oldest living trees. Visit Mahamewna Monastery and Jethawanaramaya Stupa, renowned for its historical significance and architectural grandeur. In the evening, check into Aranya Boutique Resort, a charming retreat offering a serene environment for a restful overnight stay.
DAY 03: Mihintale Pilgrimage
After breakfast, embark on a journey to Mihintale, a significant religious site near Anuradhapura. Mihintale is renowned for its role in the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka and is a popular pilgrimage destination. Explore the Mihintale Rock Temple and its sacred grounds. Visit Kaludiya Pokuna, an ancient reservoir surrounded by serene natural beauty. Return to your hotel in the evening for a comfortable overnight stay.
DAY 04: Discovering Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya
Following breakfast, travel to Polonnaruwa, the second ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka, renowned for its well-preserved ruins. Polonnaruwa, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient urban planning. Explore the city by bicycle, which allows you to cover more ground comfortably. Visit key sites including Gal Viharaya Rock Temple, Watadage, the King’s Council Chamber, the Lotus Bath, and Lanka Thilaka Viharaya. Marvel at Parakrama Samudraya, one of the greatest ancient irrigation systems. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (payment direct). If time permits, embark on a thrilling safari in Minneriya National Park, known for its large elephant herds. Continue to Sigiriya and check into the Aliya Resort and Spa, where you will spend the night.
DAY 05: Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Village Life
After an early breakfast snack pack, head to Sigiriya to climb the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, famed for its ancient frescoes and panoramic views. Ascend the rock to explore its ruins and enjoy the surrounding scenery. In the evening, visit a local village to experience traditional Sri Lankan life firsthand. Engage with local residents and participate in their daily activities. Return to the Aliya Resort and Spa for an overnight stay.
DAY 06: From Dambulla to Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, travel to Dambulla to visit the Golden Cave Temple, an ancient site renowned for its impressive collection of Buddhist art and relics. Explore the caves, which date back to the 3rd century B.C. En route, stop at the Ranweli Spice Garden to learn about Sri Lanka’s spice heritage and enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry meal. Continue to Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth, a significant Buddhist site housing a relic of the Buddha. Proceed to Nuwara Eliya, known for its picturesque tea plantations and cool climate. Check into Little England Cottages, a charming accommodation for an overnight stay.
DAY 07: Exploring Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, embark on a scenic trek in Horton Plains National Park. Visit World’s End, a dramatic cliff offering stunning views, and Baker’s Falls, a picturesque waterfall. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk in the cool hill country and explore the local Bazaar. Return to Little England Cottages for a restful overnight stay.
DAY 08: Nuwara Eliya to Yala
After breakfast, explore Nuwara Eliya with visits to Hakgala Botanical Garden, Victoria Park, and Hanuman Baktha Temple. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (payment direct). Continue your journey to Yala, a region known for its diverse wildlife. Arrive at Leopard Nest, your accommodation for the night, and unwind in this tranquil setting.
DAY 09: Safari in Yala National Park
Start the day early with a breakfast snack pack and head to Yala National Park for an exciting safari. Yala, the second-largest national park in Sri Lanka, is renowned for its high density of leopards and a diverse array of wildlife including elephants, peacocks, sloth bears, and crocodiles. Experience the thrill of spotting these majestic animals in their natural habitat. Return to Leopard Nest for a comfortable overnight stay.
DAY 10: Exploring Tangalle
After breakfast, travel to Tangalle and check into Buckingham Palace Hotel. Spend the afternoon kayaking along the Tangalle lagoon or enjoying a bicycle tour in the village, both of which are offered free of charge. Explore the stunning lagoons and mangrove forests of Tangalle. In the evening, visit Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary to observe a variety of bird species. Return to Buckingham Palace Hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 11: Whale Watching and Leisure
Early in the morning, at 5:30 am, head to Mirissa Harbour for an optional whale and dolphin watching excursion. Spend 3 to 4 hours on the water, searching for majestic whales and playful dolphins. Return to your hotel in Tangalle, freshen up, and enjoy lunch (payment direct). Spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing at the hotel or exploring the local area. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 12: Departure
After breakfast, enjoy some last moments of relaxation at the hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time for a final stroll or activity. Proceed to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your memorable Sri Lankan adventure.
