Day 1: Welcome to Sri Lanka!
Airport – Negombo: 10 km – 20 min*

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and transferred by our driver to Negombo, where you will check in to your hotel.

Depending on your arrival time, we can arrange an early check-in so you can access your room before 2 PM, subject to an additional charge.

Negombo:
Close to the market, you can witness the preparation and drying of fish, a Sri Lankan specialty.
The fish arrive either by boat or by road (from the east coast), where they are cleaned, gutted, salted, and spread out on large nets on the beach. After drying for 2 to 3 days, they are distributed throughout the country and exported for consumption.

Day 2: Trekking in Yakkala and Exploring the Cultural Triangle
Negombo – Yakkala: 30 km – 1 hr*
Yakkala – Habarana: 145 km – 2 hrs 45 min

After breakfast, you will head to Yakkala for a trek at Pilikuttuwa. Before starting the trek, you will visit the ancient Pilikuttuwa Temple.

During the trek, you will pass through vegetable and pineapple fields, as well as rubber plantations. Along the way, enjoy birdwatching, immerse yourself in the sounds of nature, and taste traditional fruits of the island.

At the end of the trek, you will visit the Maligatenna Monastery.

Afterward, you will depart for Habarana.

Day 3: Discover Dambulla and Safari at Minneriya National Park

Morning
Begin the day with a visit to the ancient Ritigala Monastery. Hidden within the jungle, this monastery was founded in the 3rd century BCE by hermit monks.
You will walk through the lush forest to reach the ruins of this ancient sanctuary, located in the heart of a nature reserve. A meditation path, shaped like a grand staircase, leads to the ruins of the monastery, offering a unique and tranquil atmosphere.
This is a truly off-the-beaten-path experience in a wild and serene setting!

Visit to Dambulla Temple
Explore the Dambulla Rock Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 1st century BCE. This troglodyte temple features five sanctuaries adorned with intricate Buddhist murals.
The visit lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Optional: Visit the Dedicated Economic Center
This is the largest market in Sri Lanka, bustling with trucks unloading goods from mountainous and agricultural regions. The products are sold in bulk and distributed to restaurants, hotels, and supermarkets across the island. The market operates 24/7, except on Poya (full moon) days.

Afternoon
Enjoy a 4×4 safari in Minneriya National Park, starting at 2:30 PM and lasting about 3 hours. The safari may take place at Minneriya, Kaudulla, or Hurulu Eco Park, depending on where the majority of elephants are located. Since these parks are interconnected, elephants move freely between them.

Day 4: Explore the Lion Rock and the Medieval Capital of Polonnaruwa

Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa: 60 km – 1 hr 30 min
Polonnaruwa – Mahiyanganaya: 68 km – 1 hr 45 min

Early Morning
Around 6:30 AM, begin your climb of the Lion Rock in Sigiriya, known as the 8th Wonder of the World. Famous for its frescoes, this ancient royal fortress is one of the island’s most captivating landmarks. At the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding jungle. The Sigiriya fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tip: Don’t miss the museum, which offers a 3D representation of the rock during its period of glory, providing fascinating insights into its history.

Next Stop: Polonnaruwa
Drive to Polonnaruwa and enjoy a special Farmer’s Lunch upon arrival.
Savor a wide variety of traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry dishes while taking in the scenic views of the surrounding rice fields.

Visit to the Archaeological Site of Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa became the capital of Sri Lanka in the 10th century, succeeding Anuradhapura. You will explore the impressive remains of this once-great city, including:

Knuckles Trek – Day 1:

Day 6: Trek in the Knuckles – Day 2

Rangala – Kandy: 35 km – 1 hr 45 min

Early Morning:
At around 6:00 AM, witness a stunning sunrise over the Knuckles Mountain Range. After breakfast, check out from your accommodation and embark on the second leg of your trek.

During the Trek:
Pause at Cobert’s Gap to enjoy breathtaking views and immerse yourself in the magnificent natural landscape. By the end of your hike, you will arrive at the village of Rangala, where your vehicle will be waiting to continue your Sri Lankan adventure.

Afternoon:
From Rangala, drive to Kandy. Located at an altitude of 500 meters, Kandy offers a cooler climate and rich cultural heritage. It was the last capital of the Sinhalese Kingdom, which resisted colonial powers for centuries before falling to the British in 1815.

Evening:
Around 6:00 PM, visit the famed Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a spiritual hub that draws hundreds of pilgrims daily, bearing offerings of lotus and frangipani flowers. Explore the adjoining Royal Palace of the last King of Ceylon.
Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is best experienced by attending one of the daily puja ceremonies at 6:00 AM, 10:00 AM, or 6:30 PM.

Practical Information:

  • Pilgrimage Season: December to May offers ideal weather and vibrant pilgrim activity.
  • Off-Season: June to November is quieter but may bring rain and strong winds, making the climb more challenging.

Guided Ascent:
A guide will accompany you, enriching the experience with the history and spiritual significance of this sacred site. The climb takes 2–4 hours depending on your pace, with a similar duration for the descent.

Morning – Train Journey to Ella:
After breakfast, transfer to Hatton Railway Station to board a local train bound for Ella. This journey, regarded as one of the most scenic train rides in the world, takes you through lush tea plantations, misty hills, and charming villages.

Important Notes:

  • Tickets for the train are released 30 days in advance, and there is no priority access for travel agencies. As such, seating cannot be guaranteed, and standing during the journey might be required.
  • Your luggage will be transported separately with your chauffeur.

Afternoon – Arrival in Ella:
Arrive at Ella Railway Station, where your driver will meet you. Ella is a quaint hill-country village surrounded by picturesque landscapes, perfect for relaxation and exploration.

Day 11: Ohiya Trek – Day 1

Morning – Starting the Trek at Haputale
Today, your adventure begins in Haputale, where you’ll embark on a scenic trek through the Tangamalai Sanctuary. This protected area, rich in biodiversity, offers an immersive experience of nature’s untouched beauty. The route will take you through quiet, less-traveled paths, where you’ll encounter vibrant landscapes and lush forests.

  • First leg: The trek starts with a 30-minute walk that takes you to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the lush tea plantation.
  • Through the plantation: Continue for another 30 minutes through the plantation, passing by the villages where tea workers reside. This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with the local tea pickers and even participate in the traditional tea leaf picking process.
  • Along the railway: After crossing the plantation, you’ll follow the railway tracks for about 30 minutes, passing through a tunnel before reaching the Idalgashinna train station.
  • Picnic break: A picnic will be set up for you at a scenic spot along the route, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Morning – Breakfast and Trekking through Scenic Hills
After breakfast at the lodge, we continue our trek, venturing through stunning landscapes that showcase the beauty of Sri Lanka’s highlands. The trail will take you through lush, rolling hills blanketed in green tea fields, bubbling streams, and a traditional tea-picking village.

  • Devil’s Staircase: A particularly challenging and narrow section of the trek is known as the “Devil’s Staircase.” It features three hairpin turns, and at the end of this path, the scenery opens up to reveal the captivating tea estates that stretch across the land.
  • Lanka Falls: After leaving the village behind, you’ll descend into a forest and come across the Lanka Falls, one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the area. The natural pool at the base of the waterfall provides the perfect spot for a refreshing swim.
  • Picnic Break: Following your swim and some relaxation, a picnic will be served in this serene environment.

Afternoon – Bambarakanda Waterfall
